Post 1 Chris is using standard stuff, both at user and advanced Admin level, and third party stuff and scripts from other people. None of his own Toools or skripts or utilitis yet.

In the first couple of videos, Chris still is getting lots of views , but they are a bit put of date, but he has reorganised them a few times and got a lot of links a bit messed up, as generally his early stuff is a bit chaotically organised. Chris is mostly talking abnout someone elses power shell script, the Richard Newton debloat skript.
Download the .zip file on the main page of Richard Newton at Github and extract the .zip file to your desired location. Once extracted, note the location: Example, I used a USB at port D , which had a folder Temp Opt with sub folder GitHub which I put the extracted folder in, so my path to note was: D:\Temp Opt\GitHub then open PowerShell (or PowerShell ISE) as an Administrator. You then give code lines somethoing like this

A few things arte duplicated in those last videos. For example the Script from Richard Newton comes up a lot, as does O&O Shutup10. Some setting adjustments are mentioned a few times, not always done in the same way.
He has changed slightly a few of his ideas and opinions, some of which is reflected in him changing some things. One example , I think, is that he is more inclined to emphasize not blocking the important security related updates. Windows 10’s user interface is a mess and has too many notifications. This removes the Action Center, LockScreen, Sticky Keys, Task View, Expands File Transfer details by default, Show all tray icons, and various other tweaks.
Application Tweaks
This script will keep the core of Microsoft Office, but most other Microsoft products that are sideloaded are removed. OneDrive is a big one that some use, so if you want that functionality check the customization section. Most other features removed aren’t used, like Internet Explorer and Work Folders.
Customization
I encourage people to fork this project and comment out things they don’t like! Here are a list of normal things people change:

One of the things there is
"Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub"
Does that mean you are somehow stopping, deleting, removing or de installing or otherwise messing with Microsoft Office?
I thought I noticed on a previous video that you removed that line because you did not want to remove Microsoft Office.
I certainly don’t want to remove Microsoft Office. - I expect a lot of people would not want Microsoft Office removed. ( For one thing MS Office from 2013 is getting progressively worse, and many people go back to their stable MS Office 2010 and lower. Like me they have a valid licence and the original DVD, but Microsoft only let you re install it a few times, after which the valid key is not accepted, and you can forget trying to talk to Microsoft about it. So it could really piss some people off if you tank their MS Office )

_ 2 You make the point continuously that people should look at and consider customising the script – that’s good, IMO
But
_2a) If I have understood correctly, the single line thing that sets it off, brings the thing in from GitHub?, - so that rather goes against encouraging people to look at and consider customising the script, ( unless they know all about GitHub…. Which I doubt… )

And explain again how to download the file and run it in the old way, That would encourage someone to check and tweak the script before using it.

I am coming back here more than a year after the event as part of getting back up to date and reviewing the previous stuff, as for me personally the development history helps me to understand better the final more up to date stuff… Checking through the archive of the various places and repositories where Chris stores his stuff, … it occurs to me that the versions discussed here the minimal.ps1 was not available for very long... and the Ultra-ltsc.ps1 discussed in the main live stream ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER27pGt5wH0&lc= ) which this video summarises, never even got into this summary video. ,,, any particular reason for that?? …… sometimes things change as time goes on and that specific Ultra-ltsc script would break so many things and I took it down as even with warnings people would run it and then blame me for not having any of the needed features that were removed by the script.
I guess that is the crappy thing about getting bigger and more eyeballs, it means some of the more aggressive scripts can't really be done anymore because of the liability from doing so

I now have no means of continuing to offer my services as a graphic designer or a job. In SA it is literally a sentance leading to homelessness. • Removes Other Bloatware (Candy Crush, etc.)
• Fixes problems that other scripts causes (lock screen and personalization options restricted)

Some notes from some YourTube comment answers I made for this Video

I think Chris was at about the first or second attempt of his script when he posted this video.
He has changed it a few times since then., based partly on comments similar to yours.

Currently the script brings up a GUI with various options: installing software; making changes; reversing those changes; repairing changers made by other people’s scripts, etc., and so only specific software is installed if you click a button to do it.

I tend to prefer to install software myself. Sometime for example, I have a stable older version of a software, and I keep a copy of that exe file to re install from, if and when needed, and I prefer to choose when I update the software to the newest version, if at all. But the newest script at this time, allows you to choose if and what you install, so that’s cool.

I think the answer to that is two fold.
_1 Most likely not, unless your games might be typical known things that people regard as bloat ware, in which case the script may remove them. Best is to check the script and tweak it if necessary, as I try to explain in my a few replies below.
_2 Some other things that the script CAN do might effect your games. But the script currently brings up a GUI giving you button options both to do things and also to then undo what you did, in case anything causes problems.

This is an approximate list of the more recent videos where Chris has developed the Debloat script further. He is adding a lot more options to do other things as well as Debloating, and so just recently he tends to refer more often to the thing as a Tool rather than a Debloat script.

Now, regarding tweaking the script before you use it:
Chris does not maker it a too clear how to tweak the script in this video, and an explanation is difficult in the confines of the YouTube comments, especially as longer comments often get tanked as spam, either immediately or some time later.
But I will try an explanation, and I will number the replies so you can see if they all post. This is 1 of 10.

2 of 10. First forget about the one line to run command. Instead you need to go to the place where Chris has his script and download a Zip file containing some files including the main ps1 file that you need. I cannot unfortunately write here where it is, as that always triggers a YouTube comment to be deleted.

The download of the zip file method is also very similar to how Chris explained how to do it in a previous video, but note he was at that time using someone else’s script:

What you need to do is a similar Zip File download but from a similar place, but where Chris now has his script.

5 of 10. You need to unzip the downloaded zip file and note where you have chosen to put the unzipped master file containing all the files including the ps1 file. ( Actually, we are only interested in the ps1 file )
It does not matter where you put it, but you need to make a note of the path to it because its needed later in a command line.

6 of 10. What you then need to do is check through the script by opening it with a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad + +
Look through it and use a # to comment out any lines that you might think might remove anything you want

7 of 10. As example for me, I have always had to make sure that I comment out any lines in a Debloat code section containing
Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub
If I don’t do that, then my Microsoft office gets removed, which can be a disaster for me as its not easy the get the software re installed : ( despite having the original disc with a valid licence Key, Microsoft don’t accept the Key more than a few times to be used. ( To get the support from Microsoft to re install a valid licensed software they often charge you more money than the cost of new software. :( ) )

8 of 10. Once you are happy with that ps1 file and have saved it then you need make a note of where you have the file, and then follow the steps given to run it, for example in this previous video.

But note that in that video, Chris breaks off at one point to download the zip file. You ignore that bit, because you would have done that already if you have done what I tried to explain in the last few comments

9 of 10. Just to make clear again what you do:
_ First get and unzip the zip folder containing the ps1 script file. Usually Chris has this folder named something like win10script-master, but he might change that now that windows 11 is here. ( His script is currently planned to work on either Windows 10 or windows 11 )
_ Open and check through the ps1 file with a text editor and remove or comment out any lin4es that might remove anything you don’t want removed.
_ Open the power shell window as Administrator
_ use some code lines something similar to those I will attempt to post in my last of these 10 comments

10 of 10. These are typical command lines. Your path will vary to where you have chosen to pot the unzipped master folder. Note that you don’t actually need to do the dir line. But that is a useful way to check that things are going as planned, as the dir command will list out all the files in the master folder, and you should see , amongst other things, the important .ps1 file that we need

Perhaps just one final note. The script from Chris is intended to work with both windows 10 and windows 11. So you may find that he changes the name of those files and folders as he continues to improve and develop it.

Lots of simple to answer questions left unanswered in comments of the videos. Attempts to answer them with a reply often results in the reply being deleted. Not a big issue. Just saying. There is not a lot of point in anyone commenting if they have a question.

I will take a guess that a lot Hate comments was caused by the last script or scripts. Chris seems to have gone quiet on it for almost a year, and I would not be surprised if he removed some comments in the meantime…

Chris next responded to comments to restore the small square action centre thing at the bottom right what the previous scripts removed. ( While he was at it he made further options to restore Cortana and to hide tray icons )
At the start he was very vocal about how he responds positively to comments, which further suggests he may be trying to gloss over the problems caused to people by his scripts

Some YouTube Notes
Yes, I think its normal and nothing to worry about.
I think its something becoming less meaningful as time goes on.
It’s rooted in the more historical and traditional way of when a lot of "normal" computer users had some things they were allowed to do controlled by an IT Administrator.
When some low level things are done, like those the script does, they likely would they been done previously by such an Administrator person. That Administrator person was then effectively trying to control the settings, so that is what that message is indicating.
Sometimes you might see that message or a similar one accompanying the greying out of some user options, all once again indicating that some "higher being" is trying to decide what settings you have.
For example, this was the case with earlier windows 10 version Update settings: Many setting options were duplicated in the direct way via normal user settings, (Advanced options dialog of Win 10 Pro), and in the so called Group Policy Editor, (the gpedit msc in the run window thing).
Once the gpedit method was used to adjust the settings then the same settings in the normal user update settings were greyed out and such a red warming was shown. However since Windows 120 version 2004, the some of the direct normal way options have been removed and you can only make the changes via the low level Group Policy Editor thing

Can anyone point me into the direction of a copy of the actual script used here?
I realise that the script has developed and advanced in the meantime, but its for learning purposes as I review the development of the script: I was away for a whule and am trying to catch up on the last years stuff.

A couple of suggestions. Regarding that, The script is relying on an internet connection for
_ 1 installing stuff
_ 2 and also for running the proprietary software from O&O which does the Debloating.
_ 3 the script itself is run somehow directly across the internet.
This limits its use to when you are online. I would suggest that is a bit unnecessary.

I will address those 3 points, if I may, in 3 replies below, since the YouTube anti-spam Bot is a bit aggressive just now, and tanks most long comments.
( This is then post 1 of 4 that hopefully will post. If there are not at least 3 replies to this comment, then you know the Bot got me again!)

_ 1 OK you do need internet for installing. Fair enough. But possibly the check and possible download of the necessary winget stuff could somehow be done only of you choose any install option.

_ 2 many people here and elsewhere have commented that they feel uneasy about using the Debloat software from a company supported by Microsoft. There may be no cause for their concern, but as I write this I have seen no response to any of these comments regarding the "Microsoft Gold Partner" status of O&O. That script is mot open source, but is there not a script anywhere to do the same?

_3 There seems to be some contradictions. On the one hand it is encouraged examine, understand and possibly tweak the script before use. But you cant do that using the single command run way, ( single command run way = the script itself is run somehow directly across the internet.)
But you can download the ps1 script file, examine it and tweak it easily with any text editor, then run it with a few simple command lines.
I have tried in vain to explain this in detail to answer a few comments recently, but its always resulted in the reply being deleted.

But in more recent live stream videos he says it keeps coming back and he has not figured out how to stop it.

Microsoft Edge has taken over PDF viewer, and other default web tasks. Even when manually removing it will reinstall via windows updates.
Removing the Base Install
We first need to find the Edge install of the chromium edition in your Program Files.
Location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\
The setup program is what we need to uninstall edge. Go to the location above and drill down from the number and Install folder
Example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\92.0.902.62\Insta ller
Once you find your path you can now uninstall edge with the following command (Note: YOURS WILL BE DIFFERENT!)

You can use this so it works for all numbers

He is trying to make a compromise between complexity for new user and too customisable.
He talks about the main change being Services, initially copying a script part from somewhere previously at GitHib servicesdisabler.ps1, but so far I can’t see any changes like that, at least not on the GUI. When he tried it he was looking at a drop of 20-50 processes as a result of the services disabling. He looked at the Diensthost / Service Host in processes of Task manager, then expanded one of them and right clicked to open Services, 2which is the same as you get from MS+r then services.msc
He spent some time trying to see what services could be disabled. ????

9.10 Live - Windows 11 Toolbox Update 14 12 2021

He got a bit bogged down initially getting his virtual windows 11 up so was a bit slow starting.
While he was trying to figure that out and wait for something to download (some update or similar), he did a quick demo of making an exe from his script from about minute 24 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyDMmfvwT2w&t=1436s to about minute 35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyDMmfvwT2w&t=2100s on the live stream video
In middle January 2022 he offered a download for 5$ of an exe, ( https://www.christitus.com/windows-toolbox ) . I bought that and also had a go at making the exe based on his demo in the video. That worked as well after a fashion. Those two exes are compared in the next post
In the end he spent most of the time getting a virtual windows up and running. He didn’t do anything to the toolbox script. He ran it once he has a windows 11 going. It seemed to work but he didn’t really do any thorough testing. I think he was feeling a bit under the weather. ( The exercise he’s doing just now should do him good, if he doesn’t break his neck falling off his skateboard…. )

The exe thing from Chris’s Tool thing…

A lot of people kept asking Chris for a simple exe. ( He mentioned how to do it from about minute 24 in this video

I got one from both ways. Here are some quick notes of the first attempt. I may add to them in the future

Self made one:
Things went approximately as in the explanation from Chris in the videos. (He did it live while waiting for something else, and , as he says , its more complicated then it needed to be, which ties up with my experience: With the benefit of not having to do it live, I have found it very simple to do.)

If I understand correctly, the free software thing, "ps2exe", that somehow makes the exe is somehow held directly by, or is integrated in, or in some other way strongly associated with windows power script stuff. Exactly what I mean by that I am not sure yet. But the end result is that a simple short set of powershell commands seem to set it off.

The following steps, which worked to get me a exe, were a combination of following Chris’s explanation along with a bit of experimenting and guess work.
You start by getting powershell with Administrator rights ip, (or the windows 11 terminal equivalent)
The first few code lines you need are like those I would typically do initially when getting the Tool to launch from the ps1 text file.
( This is the test text ( ps1 ) file I am playing around with recently, and it’s a very minor modified version of the script from Chris that has been available over the last couple of months,

When doing this experiment I had that file in a folder at this path ,
G:\Temp Opt\GitHub\win10script-master\My ps1 file Folder

So the usual first powershell code line is / was

When I did that, it set some stuff off:

That is some kind of warning that I don’t think I need to worry about yet, so I usually answer that with either of these

The next code line is needed to get us to where we want to be which is where we usually have or want stuff to go. In this worked example I would write

( I could have done that script code line first: I don’t think it matters if I do it before the other one)
Sometimes at this point I might do the command
Dir
just to list out what I have at this place, but that is optional

At this point we start the exe making stuff. The following is the simple code line that in Chris’s explanation was half way there to getting the job done. By me it set off some other steps

So those last bits were a bit extra to what Chris did: He didn’t need to do any of that, he went on directly to what I did next, ( or he would have done had he not got a bit mixed up and forgot his Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted )
So this is the next and final bit: It is a three part code line, consisting of -…
_ calling up the ps2exe thing __ the ps1 powerscript text file ___ and the arbitrary name I can chose to give the finally made exe file

So really, in a nut shell, the two important things are just the last two script code lines.
If you are starting from scratch then these are the sort of script code lines you need, (changing the path and file name to suit yours)

That is basically what Chris did in the video, ( he just went off in a tangent before he figured out that he had forgot the Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted – ( those sort of code lines irritate him, probably for good reasons that I don’t understand yet) )

Some possible Security problems
Initially the exe file did appear in my folder, My ps1 file Folder , but my windows defender kept chucking up warning pop ups, as it did again when I double clicked on the exe file, or when I right clicked and ran it as administrator,
Also the file seemed to vanish after a while!
I note that at an internet site associated with the development of this coding, https://i.postimg.cc/2SBVSB3s/Git-GH...the-ps2exe.jpg , they mention some problems with the thing being falsely flagged as a virus.
I disabled my Windows Defender temporarily, https://i.postimg.cc/QMGV9xTH/Disabl...s-Defender.jpg , and tried the whole thing again. The first time it did not seem to work, but then after a few attempts it seemed to work and the exe popped up.
I re enabled my windows defender shortly later and I seemed to get some security warning and similar problems again.
I left the defender off for a while and forgot about it. Some time later I switched it back on, and since then I have no longer had any problems launching the things.

GUI size
The size seems very similar to that of the usual script chucked up GUI which itself was a bit too big.

The original script chucked up GUI did not typically fit on a typical laptop screen, but with a bit of luck you could get the bottom buttons with the scroll bar: It seems that all the GUIs come up occasionally with a vertical scroll bar to the right, and with that you can just about get at the last few buttons at the bottom
Initially the GUIs appear to be close to identical.

A quick word to the PoshGUI issue...
Chris's Posh GUI appears to have bloated the script with a lot of bollox. It bloats with repeated, and unnecessary coding. But that is an academic point, and, in any case, that is a bit off the point of the too big GUI issue, - that bloating is not directly the cause of the too big GUI issue here, (even though Chris seems to think so sometimes!!)
Looping to reduce the bloat of repeated stuff with functions, as suggested in some Pull requests, is perhaps better programming practice. But that is Chris's choice: It does no harm to use the code spewed out by PoshGUI for the general layout. It won't have any effect on the too big fucked up non working scroll bar, non working resize issue.
I suspect more likely that this too big and fucked up scrolling, fucked up resizing, GUI issue, is some combination of a copy and paste not done properly, along with some furkin forked pushed pull crap at GitHub that messed it up a but further.
But never mind all that...

Anyways.... - onward
The following may not be the full answer, but it seems to come close. It mainly only requires only removing 9 unnecessary lines that fuck everything up!

So as you see, there is a slight dependency of size appearing on the screen to the resolution.
A higher resolution and it comes up a little smaller
1920x1080 is just about OK, and the over average used high of 2560x1440 is not too bad. I expect this latter is often what Chris uses.

The scroll bar usually doesn’t work, and usually is not there. If it is s there initially it soon vanishes making it usually impossible to get at the lower buttons

Chris’s says he is mainly interested in this Live stream in adding a button to totally disable and then re enable updates. He stresses he is doing this only because of a lot of requests and that he really does not think it’s a good idea.

At min 51 he justifies putting services to manual – he says don’t need disable or auto start.
After doing most of the mods necessary to the GUI, and a few of the mistakes he noticed, he copied most of the GUI made code, then pasted into a “clone” copy of his main current code, but he bypassed copying the first bit, so bypassed and keeps the fucked up mess at the start

At 1:52 he has another rage on Edge and once again stresses that whilst he does not intentionally try to break it, it is likely that his script will damage a lot of stuff needed for Edge.
