Formula Following Order Of Calculation BODMAS

    Here is how i calculated

Volume of discharges - 30 litres
There is 3.6 litres of water added to the 30 litres
    Then
100ml sample taken from the discharges (30+3.6) and then spun in a centrifuge = 60% solids in tube is the result

Now if i remove the 3.6 litres of water i should get 67% solids...i used this below

    Calculated = 60*(30+3.5)/30

I need to know if this is the correct answer and then how to set up in a spreadsheet please

    Thanks for any help

    Paul

    Hi,
    Using your formula in excel

    =60*(30+3.5)/30
    Gives the answer of 67.2.
    To put this into excel
    Code:
    =60*(30+3.5)/30
    copy and paste this.

Hello, your first post has conflicting information, first you say
There is 3.6 litres of water added to the 30 litres
    then your calculation states
    Calculated = 60*(30+3.5)/30
Which i did not pick up on at first, i do apologise.

If your data is 3.5 then the result is 67.0
If your data is 3.6 then the result is 67.2

    Does that help?

    Thanks Stalker

    Yes that all makes sense

I am just now enquiring if 60% is solid material and i remove the water that the solids now should be 67.2%...i now understand the calculation in Excel but am enquiring if the actual result is the correct answer.....with all the figures used above i need to know if removing the water from the sample will now be 67.2% solids instead of 60% with water

    Thanks again

    Hi Paul_P,
The mathematics behind it are sound.

    = 60*(30+3.5)/30
Excel will do the following calculations:
    30+3.5 = 33.5
    60*33.5 = 2010
    2010/30 = 67

    -or-
    30+3.6= 33.6
    60*33.6= 2016
    2016/30 = 67.2

The equation in brackets will be handled first by excel.
