General notes and introduction – how to organise that it can be done
There are some rather cumbersome and complicated concepts and processes, which it is necessary for you to understand, which this introduction attempts to clarify. You may want to re read this introduction first post, as you attempt to make progress in later posts. It is very easy to get mixed up.

What is a DVR, ( Digital Video Receiver in a security system )
_(i) Mainly, In general this will be a device capable of recording and viewing security cameras. But we are specifically in this Blog considering access to that DVR via a computer. Broadly this could be considered as possible in two ways,
_(ii) some "local" way, where your modem/router may allow access if your computer and the DVR are on the same local network,
and the way we are particularly interested in,
_(iii) "remote" access across the internet.
PC access to the DVR
_ For local access the DVR does not seem to have a unique identifier , but is given some identifying number by your network, ( which may change from time to time)
_ For remote across the internet, this seems tzo have been organised such that each sold / supplied DVR is a unique entity as a result of having some unique hard coded number, ( For the particular Model we are considering , it has an identifying, 9 character serial number, SN ( This serial number is effectively the 2nd of 4 usernames that you will encounter ) ).
If you know this number, ( and possibly some other account information ) then the DVR can be accessed remotely over the internet, and explaining how to do that is the main purpose of this Blog Thread.

Broadly speaking we can define 3 main uses of our DVR,
_ (i) the most simple use of just a few cameras and a monitor connected directly to the DVR,
_ (ii) a more flexible use in some local network which could also include more than one DVR and the ability to view in several locations simultaneously, using one or more computers – the local way
_(iii) a similar usage to (ii) but with the ability to view remotely over the world wide web internet, that is to say, access the DVR or DVRs over the internet
We are mainly concerned in this Blog post with (iii) , but the computer PC software which allows us to do (ii) or (iii) ( Guarding Vision PC Client Software ) , is organised such that, whilst its not essential to organise (ii) in order to do (iii), it can simplify both the setting up and understanding of (iii) if we discuss and set up the (ii) usage.

DVR in simple and local use
_(i) DVR in simple use
When that DVR thing is connected to cameras and a monitor, the combination will work like a simple video surveillance system ( https://i.postimg.cc/R00X9dB3/DVR-Su...nce-System.jpg ) . In the very simplest use of our DVR, the Monitors are directly connected to the DVR as illustrated in that last screenshot, and would usually be close to the DVR, since the connecting cables are usually designed for just short distance connections.
That simple usage is fairly restrictive.

_(ii) DVR in Local use( making use of a modern internet Modem/ Router ‘s LAN function )
The simple usage is fairly restricted, and a slightly more useful system would allow for more flexibility on where the monitors are relative to the DVR, possibly also with the ability to access the same pictures from different locations, ( possibly with that also simultaneously)

Traditionally such systems may have been referred to as Closed-circuit television ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-circuit_television ) Video surveillance system.
Earlier traditional systems would have been used in some closed local copper wiring system, (or using wireless systems operating over just a very small area), such as used as a security surveillance and crime prevention system in a single building or property or car park or airport etc, etc.. Our DVR can also be used in such a way via a LAN computer system , ( or in more recent years also in a local WLAN)
In a traditionally earlier LAN system, there would have likely been a large central computer, possibly referred to as a Server.
In more recent years, in many modern buildings and private houses the internet, ( in addition to the usually telephone line ) is available and the entering wires or cables will usually be connected firstly to some device of the “Router” or “modem” sort. Usually the main function of this device will be to separate and / or modify the signals coming into your house to be used on your telephone and any computers you have, but also, usually this device has a secondary function allowing it to be used in a similar way to the traditional LAN server. The Guarding Vision Software has been written to take good advantage of this, and it is therefore necessary, ( assuming you want option (ii) ), to connect via the DVR LAN socket with a LAN R45 Ethernet cable so connected between your Router/ modem and the DVR.
Mouse: ( Monitor menus )
( If you are only interested in option (i) , then there is no need to connect to your router. For this option any settings or adjustments or controlling is done via menus on the monitor screen which appear when you right click on the mouse, which should be connected. This mouse and the menu options are needed mostly for use of (i) , but it is also needed initially for the first set up of the DVR and the mouse and monitor menus are also possibly needed to do some things later when using options (ii) or (iii) )

Although whilst there is not a great technical step from (ii) to (iii) with the Guarding Vision Software, it has been organised in a somewhat cumbersome way, and it seems to not have been understood fully before the various documentation was written, resulting in confusing and mostly incorrect instructions.

_(iii) Remote Access ( via the internet )
The way that the remote access is obtained is not very obvious, and in fact, it is so cumbersome and complicated ( in my opinion unnecessarily ) , such that, at the time of me writing these notes, all available and published information and instructions are wrong
Two basic things are necessary for you to be able to access the DVR remotely with a PC
_ The DVR needs to have been enabled to allow this. ( This can be done during the initial first set up, or at a later date via settings using a monitor and mouse connected directly to the DVR ). This is fairly straight forward: A small box entitled , not surprisingly, “Enable” needs to be checked, and then a “verification code” of your choice given
_ You have certain information. This is the cumbersome complicated part: The information and knowledge that you need will vary depending on what has been done previously by yourself and others. Some things that need to be done can only be done once by one person, ( or one account ). It might mean that you need to know the DVR serial number and any verification code that has been given, or alternatively you may need to know the account logging in details of a registered user that has previously made available remote access: After that person has made the availability, it may not be possible for anyone else to make it available until that person removes ( Deletes ) its availability.

Here are listed some of the things that you will need initially, either as supplied with the DVR, or you should prepare or obtain

a computer Monitor with a VGA cable,
or
a Television that can be used as a monitor with either a VGA cable or HDMI cable

at least one camera that is compatible with the DVR and capable of being connected to the DVR

a mouse to connect to the DVR

Some means of making notes, possibly some means of taking pictures for later use and reference
Make some reliable copies of all the information on any identifying label, typically underneath, in particular a 9 character serial number which will have a form something like this

Very important, ( not initially for the initial set up or simple use , (i) ) , for later use is to have a working strong internet connection to the LAN socket via a LAN RJ45 Ethernet cable to your Router or modem, https://i.postimg.cc/wMbWK1Wm/Router...o-computer.jpg .
If you have a successful working internet connection, the furthest most green of the lights at the front , https://i.postimg.cc/1tkMmkGW/DVR-BN...t-internet.jpg , of the DVR should flicker on., https://i.postimg.cc/W3ggnhZn/Right-...g-Internet.jpg . The brightness of this light gives an approximate indication of the strength of the signal. If you have no green light or just a weak dim light, you might consider changing the LAN RJ45 Ethernet cable , possibly to a shorter one. It is worth checking this at an early stage, in case you find it necessary to place the DVR close to your modem or router so as to allow you to use as short a cable as possible in order to improve the chances of getting a good strong connection. My experience suggests that the DVRs from Sannce require a better and stronger LAN internet connection than most average computers and other devices do. I have also had two DVRs fail / become defect/ useless , at least as far as using (ii) or (iii) is concerned, when they no longer reacted to any working LAN connection ( https://support.sannce.com/hc/en-us/requests/1492131 )

Other things, of important for the later sections will be mentioned in the next section which has some poor quality photographs of a typical unpacking and quick set up that I have actually done.

You can probably rely on any supplied “Quick Start Guide” or “Quick Operation Guide” , at least in the early sections: Later sections are generalised and may not accurately give the information you need.
My only assumption at this stage is that either you, or someone, can get as far as, or has already got as far as , unpacking the DVR and any things like cameras, mouse, power supply etc. that comes with, and had got as far connecting cameras, or at least one camera initially, to the DVR and connecting the DVR to a monitor.
Getting that far is about as much as you can rely on for accurate help with any supplied instructions to help you to do, or most of the YouTube tutorials on the subject.

Before we start, some important point to be aware of, in particular the first introduction to the trick username and passwords that you will encounter in the course of using the DVR , an the the Guarding Vision PC client Software..
There are a number of different User names and passwords and other verification words or codes and serial numbers needed. It is very easy to get confused. There are also a number of problems and bugs associated with some of these.
I would therefore recommend only using or changing passwords and usernames if absolutely necessary, use any default values if possible, and , at least initially, try to use the same simple passwords and user names as much as possible. This will increase your chances of getting things up and running successfully. Possibly later you could then change and or add more complicated usernames and passwords, if desired for security reasons.

You will be prompted early on for a User Name and Password which is required for you
_ to get at settings in the DVR via the Monitor and the mouse.
_ and this same User Name and Password is usually required when setting up the LAN access ( our discussed way (ii) ) use of the DVR on a computer via the Guarding Vision Software . This could be considered a “local network pair” of username and password, since it is required for öocal access of the DVR, either via settings got at by right clicking on the mouse when viewing the monitor, or a computer as long as it is connected to the same local network as the DVR.
Because this password and username is asked for very early on, I tend to refer to it as the 1st username and password pair. In literature, and the people at Sannce, often refer to the password in this username and password pair as the password you set when you used the DVR for the first time.

In the same screen shot that you “set the password when you use the DVR for the first time”, you will be asked for an Email to Reset Password. Important here is to use a reliable Email address, that is to say, one which is in regular use or to which you have regular reliable access.
Make a good few back up notes of what you enter.
I have noticed some strange errors and bugs when using Upper Case characters for various DVR passwords, so I would recommend using lower case, and better still, for this particular password I would recommend leaving it at the default of admin
Passwords and usernames introduce problems, some strange lingering ones that re appear later , if they are added slowly or if they introduce any error message. So it is always important to have a good and correct ( password only in this case ) prepared beforehand. I tend to keep a text file, .txt , or a Word File, .doc , with all my passwords and usernames in.

This is a typical reliably working pair that I have often used.

You will have the option later in a screenshot of an “Enable” check box which you should check, and then agree to some conditions which come up, and then set an associated “Verification Code”
You will be required to give this “Verification Code” when setting up ( Adding ) remote access availability. This is part of an identifying code for a particular DVR, but I personally tend to use the same Verification Code for all my DVRs, at least initially, to help reduce the confusion resulting from the various different passwords and usernames flying around all over the place. ( I have found something of the form of Sannce2 a consistently reliable “verification code” )
Usually this will be required along with the 9 character serial number, SN . and typically you are asked to give it in a typical two entry window , so you could regard the following as a typical remote access equivalent of the the “local network pair” of username and password. So this following we could refer to as one of my typical “remote P2P access pair”
In the course of all my notes I often refer to this pair as the 2nd password and username pair

So we could refer to this as the “remote network pair” of username and password , as it effectively allows us to get access across the internat. This username and password pair is needed in one way of the 3 advanced remote internet PC access of the DVR, ( way –C- ), and the password is needed for another , (way –A-). The other way , -B- does not need it only because it would have been used previously when logged into a “Sannce P2P account” , and we will need to know that 4th username and password pair

The whole business of understanding the 4 sets of username and password pairs is very tricky. At important points I re summarise the situation regarding the various usernames and passwords.

If there is no information there, or it is greyed out, then that may indicate that the DVR is not receiving any internet signal or it may indicate that the signal is not strong enough.
( These figures are related to the address of the DVR as assigned by your computer LAN network router/modem system.
Usually you do not need to concern yourself with these figures, although the top most number is an important and could change after a long period of time, especially if you do not use the DVR for a long period and/ or other devices are connected to your router / modem Netwirk system in the meantime. Such things might resulting in any DVR that is made available to LAN access no longer working because , in simplified terms, something somewhere will be looking in the wrong place / looking at the wrong address.
It does no harm to note those numbers, then if you later have problems with the LAN access, you can go into the settings via the mouse and monitor and check / compare the address being shown there with the previous used address. It is not clear or consistent as to whether the addresses re adjust themselves automatically. Sometime they may, sometime they may not and you may need to adjust or re set something to effectively make the necessary change.

( The effective user name is not shown – that is the serial number typically on a sticker on the underside of the DVR. I gave the example for one of my DVRs as F53992124 )
The effective password for remote access is what is often referred to as the “Verification Code”, as shown in the screenshots:

In those last screenshots I have personally chosen the password of Sannce2. That is just my personal choice. It is a character combination that has reliably and consistently worked for me as the “verification code”. You may try a different character combinations as you wish. But make sure you keep a note somewhere of both the serial number and the verification code.
( Sometimes this “Verification Code” might be referred to as the “Sannce Home Verification Code” - But that can confuse by being mixed up with another user name an password pair which we have not yet discussed, the “ Annke Sannce Registered Vision Guarding Vision Cloud P2P App Account User Name and Password by Email Address “ )

In Windows 10 there are some Bugs which may cause the appearance of an icon either not to appear or to appear delayed or not shown correctly. Usually this problem is overcome by navigating to the desktop in explorer, or searching for the application, where usually the icon will be shown. Then simply clicking on it , or failing, that copying it , or dragging it, from the windows explorer desktop window, or from where you see it, to the actual desktop will sort out the problem and the icon will be displayed normally

1-4). Run Guarding Vision software for the first time and register the administrator account.

Introduction and discussion of the way I have chosen to proceed with the explanations
The main purpose of all my Blog here , is to get the remote Access via a (remote) PC using Guarding Vision PC Client Software
We do actually have enough information to do this , at this stage, from a remote source which is away from where the DVR. In other words, theoretically, we could proceeded as if from now on
_ we have no direct access to the DVR
and also
_ our PC has no direct ( LAN cable or WLAN wireless connection ) connection to the same router / modem to which the DVR is connected. ( But note*** , that the DVR must have a reliably working internet connection via the LAN socket to a router/modem or some other means to connect it to the internet: It must be “On line” )

In other words, we could proceed as if we were travelling “away from home” and have our PC or Laptop with us

However, it is much easier to understand, and has a better chance of initial and later success, if we proceed in a more logical progression.
In this logical progression we will in the next section remain “at home” , or physically close to the DVR.
So we are assuming that we unpacked and did the initial first quick set up and are still using the (i) most simple use of the DVR and cameras and monitor (i) ( and have the mouse still connected to the receiver )

We will then go on to the next way, (ii) , the “local LAN way”, to use the DVR, which is local PC use of the DVR

Finally we will go on to the P2P Cloud way, (iii) , which is the remote PC way
We note that at this final stage we will still be coincidentally connected to the same router / modem as the DVR, but this is just because of the way we have decided to progress in order to set up the final P2P Cloud way. However, at this final point we need do no more than simply take our PC to some remote point , ( theoretically anywhere in the world!), and as long as we can connect hat PC in some way to the world wide web internet at this remote location, then if all has gone well, we should be still able to access the DVR, that is to say view using the cameras that are connected to the DVR, and the pictures should appear close to real live time on out PC screen. This last functioning arrangement is the main goal of my entire Blog here . At that point , this Blog is finished, although note that we will discus the three different ways to get at the final P2P Cloud way: _ -A- _ -B- _ -C-

***Very important, is to have a working strong internet connection to the LAN socket via a LAN RJ45 Ethernet cable to your Router or modem, https://i.postimg.cc/wMbWK1Wm/Router...o-computer.jpg .
If you have a successful working internet connection, the furthest most green of the lights at the front , https://i.postimg.cc/1tkMmkGW/DVR-BN...t-internet.jpg , of the DVR should flicker on., https://i.postimg.cc/W3ggnhZn/Right-...g-Internet.jpg . The brightness of this light gives an approximate indication of the strength of the signal. If you have no green light or just a weak dim light, you might consider changing the LAN RJ45 Ethernet cable , possibly to a shorter one. My experience suggests that the DVRs from Sannce require a better and stronger LAN internet connection than most average computers and other devices do. I have also had two DVRs fail / become defect/ useless , at least as far as using local PC LAN (ii) or PC Cloud P2P (iii) is concerned, when they no longer reacted to any working LAN connection ( https://support.sannce.com/hc/en-us/requests/1492131 )

The instructions in section Step 2a: LAN Access here , https://support.sannce.com/hc/en-us/...arding-Vision- , are reasonably good and accurate, and the instructions I am giving are basically those , with some elaborations and expanded clarifications and explanations.

But that initial opening screenshot is somewhat misleading as something has already been done on opening to produce that.
To explain:


#_ Standard Device Selection (Selected by Default) ( Default standard device selected on/by opening software: Device )
A Default device type has been opened/selected automatically
This emphasises again, that a device type has been added automatically. I am and have been continuingly stressing this because it helps to understand later sections, where we need to add the type ourselves

What all the current literature does not explain very well is that, by default, the Guarding Vision has one Device type by default selected / highlighted in brown,
