Someone is having difficulty registering so I am trying it out in this Thread. The problem seems to be that he never receives the confirmation Email with the link to activate his account.

So let me try registering a few times.

Using this gmail address:

OK, so far so good with gmail. It worked, ( but note confirmation Email with the link to activate the account landed in spam folder
Let me try some other free Email providers in the next posts …….

Testing Email Notifications
To subscribed Threads

Let's take a "Killer" account that worked on the registration, - that is to say one where the confirmation Email with the link to activate the account arrived

I am using this logged in account here and now to make this post. The act of doing this should according to the default settings mean that the account is thereafter subscribed to this Thread and will get an Email notification for further replies made to the thread by anyone else

What I will / did do now, is change the Email address to a new one of a provider that did not work on the registration, for example I will use
xxxxxx@t-online.de
(Note: I cannot use the one I tried before, because: even though the confirmation mail with the activation link did not arrive, never the less , account name, and Email address are registered and therefore not available to be used)

OK I did that.
I made a new interesting discovery. After doing this successfully, I then was no longer able to post …. I hit the You seem to have registered your name but haven't confirmed… ……………
Possibly also I saw for a split second a pop up telling me that because I had changed my Email, a new confirmation was sent with an activation link

Workaround to keep registered name ( with completed full registration )
after a fail to get the confirmation mail containing the activation link to complete the full registration

Following on from the last post, it seems that we have stumbled over a reasonable workaround to the above issue, which was a major reason for starting this Thread.

Recap
For reasons not too clear currently, during the registering of a new account, the Email confirmation, (containing a link that must be clicked on tom activate the account), is sometimes not arriving,
An option to resend does not appear to be available, ( and even if it did, it likely would not be much use anyway, since the problem appears to be that certain Email providers may be blocking Emails from excelfox.com ).

This introduces other problems , because …..
_the User appears never the less to be registered, but cannot do things such as replying to a Thread or posting a new Thread.
(The following warning is an indication of this problem

_ so the other problems are that both the user name and the Email are effectively registered by excelfox.com, so cannot be used again

Hmm…….

Now, I like to encourage as much real Human stuff generally, and less Anonymity as possible, so I am unhappy that if a user chooses to use the name / email that he/she is known by, but may then gets caught in this awkward situation, as has happened, which sparked off this Thread

So, here is a walkthrough workaround example, starting with a reproduction of what happened

Now go into your settings and change the Email address to the other account that you have***

For a split second you may notice a pop up telling you of the need to re activate and that an Email has been sent for that purpose.

Now take a look at the inbox of both your accounts, the original gmx account, and the other one ( the one that you registered to help get over the problem with this workaround ***)

So from this point on you can ignore the other account – it is simply like a back up extra storage of Emails from excelfox.com
From this point on you can simply use your gmx account. For example to click on the activation link

A last few thoughts for now
Hopefully at a later we will be able to get the blocking by some Email providers removed. Then the Email can be changed back to the original main account, if wished - but that is personal choice: The extra account is a convenient way to keep a copy of all Emails from excelfox, allowing you to remove them from cluttering up your main account. I personally tend to use this method of having a back up, and allowing me to keep my main Emails InBoxes cleaner, a lot anyway.
( I never used it previously for excelfox, but I will be adding it now, since the account I originally registered with xxxx@t-online.de stopped working for Email notifications some time ago. I will check that out later and perhaps add a post or create a new Thread for a workaround when/if your Email notifications suddenly stop working. This will be a short term workaround hopefully: As time goes on I will hopefully get confident in getting the blocks removed fairly quickly as and when they may suddenly occur.

A user has problems registering an account with gmail.
This is bad news , since if people can't even register with gmail, then even the spammers can't register, since they seem to almost all use gmail.

So, I have an old friend, that started at xxxx@t-online .de, and then got somehow migrated into gmail, god only knows how, and he has been banned or tagged as a rogue more times than me and andy put together from more places than I can remember.

But he seems to still have a gmail account: I had to find his log in details on a piece of old toilet paper, (on the unused side of it thankfully)

Let me see if I can get him registered at excelfox, that is to say get him a excelfox user account including full activation to allow him to contribut6e, post replies etc.…..

My best guess for now is that gmail is still mostly working for a registration, most likely the confirmation with the link to activate will arrive in a spam folder. Perhaps gmail occasionally does not work, as a user has found, but there should be a way to work around that with another email provider in most cases.

( Edit a few days later… I found a spare gmail account, and one of my forum incognito characters that I appear to have forgot to register here at excelfox, Bill Jelly, a sort of parody to that mrexcel.com chap Bill Jelen ..
So I gave it a quick go at a register … It went well. The important confirmation Email with the activation link took just one minute to arrive, ( in the spam folder)

After rechecking many Email accounts (InBoxes and spam folders), I come to the conclusion that I jumped too eagerly and quickly to conclusions…
It now seems that, (with just the exception of German Telekom freemail, ( t-online.de) ), all the Email providers I tried received the Email with the link to activate the account. Further more, because I in my ignorance I ignored it ( thinking the Email never came), another one with a new link to do the same account activation came two days later!

I have edited posts accordingly

I need to be more careful on noting the times involved in order to get a fee for the time it might take, so here is some more experiments…

This will test a couple of things.
_ Because I changed from the gmx net account, I assume it is now available for a new account registration??-.
_ I will make a new registration, and try to time careful how long things take, in particular how long before the confirmation Email with the activation link takes….

A few insights from my side of what happened.

I registered with my default mail andreas(dot)killer(at)gmx(dot)net and never got the activation mail.

Then I changed the mail in ExcelFox to my gmail address and never got the activation mail.
I changed the mail back to gmx and we talked about the behavior via PM...

Days later, I saw that I had received an activation email:

Subject: Action Required to Activate Membership for Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word VBA Macro Automation Help

I tried to click the link inside, invalid. Very strange, so I thought I'd try again.

I changed the mail to gmail, clicked "Save Changes", Excelfox told me the activation mail is send.
I changed the mail back to gmx, clicked "Save Changes", Excelfox told me the activation mail is send.

But nothing happens, no activation mail in my Inbox nor SPAM folders.

Days later I received the activation email! Clicked the link inside, bingo, I'm here.

I also received the activation mail in my Gmail account, same delay but one day before gmx and they ended up in the SPAM folder.

Registering here is very tricky. I think the mail hosts on the network catch the email because it looks suspicious.
I would try to change the sender name to "ExcelFox Forum" and a shorter meaningful subject like "Your login details", maybe that helps.

Yep its a bit tricky and erratic – but as per my last post on this one above , I also noticed later that I had some confirmation Emails with the activation link in it, some that I had previously missed. I think in those cases on that day they just happened to come a bit slow. Because of that I jumped to a few wrong conclusions. The registering is not good and easy, but it is not as bad as I first concluded.
I almost contacted you again per Email to tell you about my change of conclusions, but figured you were a bit pissed off with it all for a while.

So by some hap hazard back and forth you are here with the User name and gmx net Email you wanted. Interesting as gmx net is one of only 2 accounts I can’t seem to register an account with yet: Currently I am only not getting no joy trying to register with
xxxxxx@gmx.net ( note I have no problem with xxxxx@gmx.de )
and
xxxxxx@t-online.de
If I had to put money on it, I would say that getting anywhere with xxxxxx@t-online.de is unlikely, as I was experiencing problems for some time with that at other forums. I will take a guess that maybe a 50 50 chance I will or won’t get anywhere with gmx net

But I do not want to jump to any conclusions again too quickly. I want to leave it, and move on with other things. I will keep monitoring, but like everything here at the moment, at a snail’s pace. Welcome here fully finally. Do what you want, within reason, we are all adults here, or hopefully, no over zealous Moderators and things, but for a while, don’t expect much to be going on or you getting much response.
