Obtaining and Maintaining a stable Excel. Operating System Considerations
An older Operating System and Microsoft Office from around 2003-2010 can be a good stable solution for limited use of Excel, such as for your own use with minimum sharing. But I think it can bee dangerous to completely shut yourself out of the “newest”. You need to keep up.
Security / Virus issues
Relying on updates for security issues is unpredictable. As I write this, Microsoft updates generally have a bad reputation, but their security updaters and their generals security as supplied by Windows 10 is considered as not too bad: Microsoft are behaving like a Protection racket ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protection_racket ) ; as long as you do what they want and pay up, and use things as they decide, then , to some extent, you are allowed to do your computer business.
Buying a good virus protection can be another option.
A fairly simple sounding alternative option would be to do the common sense approach of once in a while “wiping the slate clean”.
In other words, …_
_ keep most of your personal data, and as much as technically possible of everything else, on external hard drives, USB sticks, etc. , so as to minimise what is stored on the computer’s internal hard drive, and
_ keep back ups of everything, including the Operating system itself.
_ _... So then once in a while you can re install the operating system and other basic software on your computer.
Re installing an Operating system was until most recently, with Windows 10, not as simple as it may have be suggested
Many experienced professionals recommend this. They presented this as the common sense simple approach to clear out any unwanted clutter on your computer, both the usual build up that seems to always occur, as well as any bad things such as viruses etc. , that may have crept in without your knowledge.
I am sceptic, if so many professionals actually do it, at least in recent years, until most recently with Windows 10.…
It appears that in the practice, doing such a wipe clean, was becoming more and more difficult. There were many small problems that seem to occur, which an experienced professional might sort out by instinct , hardly noticing that he does it. For an average user, these problems may not be solvable.
In addition, newer computers are becoming like many consumer projects: The manufacturer tries to make them last a few years. Replacing hardware and re installing software was therefore becoming increasingly difficult. But then came Windows 10
Windows 10 and wipe clean and instillation discs ( and bootable USBs )
Instillation discs were, before Windows 10, rarely supplied in recent years.
It was common practice in early personal computer days to get a full set of Operating system disks with a computer. For some strange reason, many professionals seem to cling on to the belief that this is the case. Possibly in a professional environment there are always somewhere both the disks and expertise to use them, so it is just assumed that nothing has changed.
In actual fact , instillation discs were rarely supplied anymore with new computers, and even if you obtained them, they likely didn’t work… manufacturers increasingly tried to actively hamper the possibility of re installing the operating system.
Things changed with Windows 10. Even people without a licence can easily get help from Microsoft to produce a DVD or USB from which to install Windows 10. In fact they promote the doing of this under the name of Windows 10 Media-Creation-Tool ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 ) .
It seems that Microsoft are planning an all out attack to take over control of the world, and Windows 10 is one of their major vehicles for this. In parallel they are concentrating on making the operating system spy on you / control you and getting the system spread as quickly and densely as possible. Whilst the profit from the sale of licences is not ignored, the one off sale of the license to get an Operating system is less of a priority and ease of instillation is encouraged.
This was general policy was quietly started with Windows 7…
Obtaining the required file for making an instillation disc.
Microsoft actually wants to avoid users downloading the files directly with Windows 10. Instead, they prefer that you use the Windows 10 Media-Creation Tool. To use this, you first download the Windows 10 Media-Creation Tool, from which you can then do various things related to producing instillation media . This is all part of taking control of you and your computer. Indeed , the tool will not download onto operating systems prior to Windows 7…. Presumably the tool and the more recent operating systems are all part of the plot, and some secrets might be easier to get at on earlier operating systems..
Part of the information here is intended to try and get a less harmful instillation disc. This will be picked up later, after some basic information about producing instillation discs. The basic ideas are applicable to either a instillation disc or an instillation USB, ( called typically a “bootable USB”). As a personal preference I concentrate on producing a disc
