Excel selection of data based on the data in another cell

Hi,

I need a way to achieve the below requirement in excel using excel formulas.

I have departments loaded in one column. The cells in the columns will have drop down list of departments.

When i select any of the department from the list, in next column the employee numbers belonging to that number alone should be populated in the drop down list box.

I know how to bring drop down list box in excel using Data validation in Data tab. But the formula to compare the department and then display relevant employee in next column i am not sure.

Kindly advise any excel formula or any other way to achieve this.
Quite urgent Please help.
